Faith Smith and April Cooley

Swallow Hill violin student Faith Smith, left, and her instructor, April Cooley.

I recently met with one of Swallow Hill’s scholarship students who changed my life.

Faith Smith’s first memory of seeing a violin goes back to fifth grade and that’s when her passion for music ignited. But in the Denver neighborhood where Faith grew up, access to music classes didn’t exist. Thankfully a teacher guided her to Swallow Hill, where our Scholarship Program made it possible for Faith to bring her passion for music to light.

Throughout high school, Faith made the two-hour commute each week to Swallow Hill – from bus to light-rail to bus. For Faith, this was a journey borne out of her love for the violin. As she says “I don’t know where I’d be without music in my life.”

Now in college at UNC, Faith looks forward to returning to Swallow Hill on her school breaks, “it’s my second home now because everyone knows me at Swallow Hill.”

Faith’s is a unique story, but her need to access affordable music education is not. The demand for high-quality, affordable music lessons in metro Denver is growing – we awarded more in scholarships to students of all ages than ever before in 2018.

We are thrilled to announce our Board Member David Pinkert and the Pinkert Family Foundation, has provided a $15,000 challenge grant to support our Scholarship Fund. We’re now asking for your help in meeting this need.

With your help we can rise to the challenge that David’s family established. Our goal is to raise $15,000 by November 5 to ensure our Scholarship Program grows to meet the needs of our community and we can’t get there without your support!

Faith told me “It’s really cool Swallow Hill gives opportunities to people who have less access to music lessons by helping people out with scholarships.”

Will you contribute to our Scholarship Fund and ensure we can provide access to music education for those who have a story like Faith’s?

Thank you for supporting Swallow Hill Music’s Scholarship Fund!
