Swallow Hill Music is excited to announce the return of Josh Ritter with a concert at Central Presbyterian Church in Denver on Saturday, April 25 at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.

Ritter is a renowned singer, songwriter, musician, artist, and best-selling author. One of today’s most thoughtful and prolific voices, he has released eleven studio albums including 2019’s widely acclaimed Fever Breaks of which NPR Music praised, “He remains a hydrant of ideas while embodying an endless capacity for empathy and indignation, often within a single song.”

His twelfth studio album I Believe in You, My Honeydew is out now. Two-plus decades into his celebrated career, Ritter has written music that has transcended generations including luminaries such as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Bob Weir covering his songs.

The April 25 concert is part of Ritter’s national The Book of Gold Thrown Open tour. The tour will encompass the whole of Ritter’s storied career, rather than focusing on any one album.

Ritter’s roots with Swallow Hill run deep. In 2013 he headlined a concert as part of the Denver Botanic Summer Concert Series, which is produced by the Denver-based music nonprofit. The following year he headlined Swallow Hill’s 35th Anniversary Celebration at the Paramount Theatre.

A return to Central Presbyterian Church, where the nonprofit regularly produced concerts prior to 2020, is the latest step in a flurry of new and reinvigorated live music programming from Swallow Hill in the previous two years, including:

  • A revamped concert series at Four Mile Historic Park, which has since witnessed record-setting audiences
  • Presenting concerts at Left Hand Brewing in Longmont
  • The launch of the Indiewood Street Festival in Englewood presented by Downtown Englewood
  • Partnering with Northglenn Arts to produce concerts at the Parsons Theatre
  • The creation of Swallow Hill BanjoFest each November to complement the long-running Denver UkeFest that takes place in May

“Producing offsite concerts is central to what Swallow Hill Music has done for decades,” Swallow Hill CEO Jessy Clark said. “I couldn’t be happier to see us back at Central Presbyterian Church, presenting artists like Josh Ritter in the heart of the city for a night of unforgettable music. This is what we do best.”

As a nonprofit organization, Swallow Hill relies on ticket sales — including those for the Josh Ritter concert — to support its mission of expanding access to the arts.

Located in the heart of Denver, Central Presbyterian Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A popular concert destination for decades, in recent years it’s been revamped with new restrooms, a new concession area, and a more accessible layout for attendees.

It will provide the perfect setting for a career-spanning set from Josh Ritter, who is now in his third decade as a touring musician.

”He radiates an infectious energy that never wavers throughout the night,” Americana Highways enthused in a recent review. “Ritter smiles more than should be legal while singing, but it never feels performative. It’s real – just like the stories he tells.”
