Ukulele and Percussion Ensemble
The Ukulele and Percussion Ensemble was formed in 2018 by the coming together of two separate Swallow Hill classes. Hearing one another practice on a weekly basis, ukulelist Claudia Clopton had the idea of initiating a jam with those drummers across the hall. Uke teacher Casey Cormier reached out to percussion leader Ed Contreras, and the two groups became one, digging the combined sounds of strum and drum more than their individual parts.
Each session, the UPE democratically chooses a theme of study, be it genre, band, or era of music. Past favorites include U2, Santana, Motown, and Early Rock and Roll, and our current focus is the great Fleetwood Mac. The Ukulele and Percussion Ensemble brings the party to the stage and is sure to have you dancing in your seat or on your feet, singing and clapping along, and sharing in the love of making music not apart, but together!
