Longtime Swallow Hill Instructor, Matt Skellenger, leads the Jazz Ensemble: The Music of Ron Miles. This group plays a selection of tunes from Ron’s expansive catalog. From his first release in 1986 to his final album Rainbow Sign in 2019, Ron blended straight-ahead jazz, rock, country, folk, funk, pop, avant-garde, and gospel influences to create a style unique to him and his Colorado roots. Born and raised in Denver, Matt has been composing, performing, recording, and teaching in Colorado for 30 years. He earned a B.A. in Music from Metro State University in 2002 where he studied with the great Ron Miles. Matt has also studied with world renowned bassist and educator, Victor Wooten. Wanting to share his musical experiences with more people, Matt began teaching at Swallow Hill in 2008. He teaches Electric Bass, Guitar, Jazz Ensembles, Music Theory, Little Swallows, Kids Guitar, Piano and Drums.
