Orchard Creek

Orchard Creek Band is a group of committed Colorado musicians comprised of Dave Richardson (banjo), Keith Murdock (dobro), Jan Springer (guitar), Kevin Slick (mandolin) and Todd Ball (bass). While enjoying local bluegrass jams in the Boulder, CO area, they were impressed by each other’s talent. Even though their musical backgrounds are wide and varied, the combination of styles has become a vibrant and diverse bluegrass blend of traditional, contemporary and originals, plus gospel touches and a lot of fun. It’s fresh picked bluegrass that is sure to please!

For the last five years, Orchard Creek has been playing around town, appearing at (among others) the Midwinter Bluegrass Festival, High Mountain Hay Fever, Snowygrass, and the South Dakota Bluegrass Festival. All members of the band write songs and sing, and the band has received several write-ups in bluegrass magazines such as Bluegrass Today.

Dave Richardson brings his fine banjo picking and vocals to Orchard Creek. Dave recorded his first record album at Ripon College in Wisconsin with folk group The Other Half. He moved to Hawaii where he appeared daily on ABC television’s The Don Ho Show. He has recorded/performed with Jerry Byrd, Glen Campbell, Jimmy Martin, Chris Hillman, Dennis Caplinger, Kenny Rogers, and Mel Tillis. Dave lives in Longmont, Colorado where operates Compact Recording Systems.

Keith Murdock plays resophonic guitar (Dobro). His musical journey includes a degree in music from CU Denver, He’s worked at the Country Music Association (CMA) in Nashville and Feyline Concerts in Denver. He has opened shows for Talking Heads, Huey Lewis, The Romantics, and Ramones.

Jan Springer plays guitar. She studied classical guitar at the University of Denver where she won several instrumental awards. After many years working as a minister, she returned to bluegrass. Jan teaches at Reunion Guitar Studio in Johnstown.

Kevin Slick plays mandolin. Growing up in Pennsylvania he worked in radio and played music full time at folk club Godfrey Daniels and punk music haven CBGBs. Before Orchard Creek, he played bluegrass festivals with The Steel Pennies and The Savage Hearts. His songs were included in “Rise Again” from Hal Leonard Publishing. Kevin was President of the Colorado Bluegrass Music Society (CBMS) for several years.

Todd Ball (bass). When learning that Todd had played the Baritone since 5th grade, the high school orchestra leader drafted him to play stand-up bass and he never looked back. His musical journey wound through Rock & Roll, Country, Folk, Rock, Disco, Jazz, Classical and R&B. He worked regularly for many years in the Miami music scene.

Known as having a voice “as pure as the prairie wind”, multi award winning vocalist Patty Clayton is a performing songwriter, who has gainfully branded her own Buckaroo Ballads and Western Swing inspired by her life in the West resulting in a number of awards and recognition over the years. After more than 10 years living on a little rock in the middle of the Pacific and entertaining the local masses, Patty has returned to Colorado for good and is on the loose running rampant across the wild west sharing her songs and stories in the very lands she comes from.
