“Edie Carey’s ‘The Veil’ is a direct hit to the solar plexus…jaw-dropping lyricism…” – The Independent
Colorado-based singer-songwriter Edie Carey is known for her unmistakable, soulful voice, her intelligent, heart-grabbing songs, but perhaps most especially for her warm, engaging presence on – and off – stage. As much a part of her show as the music itself, Edie’s wry humor makes audiences feel as though they have just spent an evening with a very close friend.
Edie Carey has been performing since 1999, singing alongside Sara Bareilles and Brandi Carlile and appearing on PRI’s syndicated Mountain Stage as well as Cayamo, Telluride Bluegrass, and Newport Folk Festivals. Her lullabies project with Sarah Sample won Best Children’s Album in the 2015 Independent Music Awards, and she was a featured vocalist along with Lisa Loeb on the 2020 Grammy-Winning ensemble “All the Ladies.” Americana Highways called her 2022 release “The Veil” “one of the best of the year” and Basic Folk listed it as #4 on their “Top 10 of 2022 So Far” alongside Grammy-nominees Anais Mitchell and Aoife O’Donovan.
Carolyn Shulman knew from the time her father gave her a guitar at age nine that she wanted to play music for the rest of her life. However, it wasn’t until after she had practiced law in Houston for seven years, performing in local venues when she could, that she finally decided to focus her full attention on her lifelong passion of writing and performing original music. Carolyn’s sound is a nod to folk and Americana influences such as Shawn Colvin, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Tom Petty, Susan Gibson, and Patty Griffin. Her lyrics are layered with meaning and vulnerability and are supported by her driving acoustic guitar rhythms and detailed fingerpicking. Now based in Denver, Carolyn recorded her debut full-length album, Grenadine & Kerosene, with producer John McVey at Cinder Sound Studios in Longmont, Colorado. The album was released to positive reviews on May 21, 2021 and enjoyed three months on the Folk Radio Charts. Carolyn was honored to perform as a finalist in the 2022 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriters Showcase. She is currently working with McVey again to record her second full-length album, planned for release in 2024.
