DENVER, COLO. (5/22/08) -- Swallow Hill is thrilled to present the official CD release concert for Ernie Martinez's highly anticipated debut solo project on Saturday, June 14 at 8 p.m. The CD, titled Where I Make My Home, features numerous special guests, including members of Dakota Blonde, John Chandler & the Wichitones, Reckless Abandon and Loose Cannon. These special guests will also appear with Martinez at the release concert.

An extremely versatile musician, Ernie Martinez has been on the Swallow Hill faculty from its very beginnings before its foundation, when the Denver Folklore Center began offering classes. Swallow Hill as a nonprofit organization was born in 1979 out of the growth of the Center and its increasing role in top-notch concert production and promotions as well as music class offerings. Through these changes, Martinez continued to remain a key figure on the faculty. After taking a hiatus for a moment in the 1980s, he returned as a permanent Swallow Hill faculty member in 1995.

Martinez plays just about every instrument that has strings and more. He started out in the early 1970s playing guitar and drums. Then, when "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" and "Dueling Banjos" came out, he was inspired to learn the five-string banjo. Soon afterwards, he took up the mandolin, dobro and peddle steel guitar.

Since then, Martinez has made music a full-time career as a performer, teacher, recording artist and producer. Currently, he plays with Dakota Blond, Runaway Express, Timothy P. and Rural Route Three, The Jammy Man Band and John Chandler. He instructs beginning through advanced-level students at Swallow Hill, and stylistically, his specialties are bluegrass and country.
