House of Rock Instructors

Chad Johnson

House of Rock director Chad “Chadzilla” Johnson has been a member of the Swallow Hill faculty since 2000, mainly as a drum teacher. He soon realized the need for his private students to experience what he has enjoyed for 30 years: the thrill and enjoyment of playing live music with other musicians in a preferred style. With the help of Michael Schenkelberg in 2007, the House of Rock was born. With a great knowledge of rock and roll instruments and a performing career in dozens of musical styles spanning more than 20 years, Chadzilla knows how to help young people learn, prepare and enjoy the experience of musical camaraderie. He is also a composer, producer and band leader.

Shane Provost

Shane Provost is a graduate of the Atlanta Institute of Music’ Guitar Performance program and received a BA in Ethnomusicology from Indiana University. What does Shane say about his teaching style? “I’ve been playing guitar for the past 14 years, and contemporary rock styles became my primary focus. Since graduating from high school, I’ve been teaching rock and jazz styles professionally in the Atlanta area as well as central Indiana. Music should be fun. Music should be inspiring. Whether you are just starting off, want to understand more by diving into music theory, or have been playing for years and are wandering around a “guitar plateau”, I tailor each student’s lesson to help them reach their individual goals.”

David Thomas Bailey

David Thomas Bailey is a musician and educator based in Colorado. David holds a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies and performs regularly in both the jazz and original rock communities of Denver. Always a student of music, David has studied with Charlie Hunter, Dale Bruning, and Jonathon Kreisberg. He has performed in across the nation, with jazz luminaries like Howard Alden and Joe Giglio. David brings a depth of music scholarship and a breadth of knowledge to the lesson studio and classroom. A laidback presence accompanies a thorough curriculum that is founded in the lexicon of popular and rock songs. David’s specialty is teaching formal composition and improvisation to children and teens; he has facilitated several workshops on the subject for Jefferson County Public Schools. David’s current group, Man vs. Village, just completed their first record and hope to release it soon.

Angie Stevens

For a singer/songwriter to stand out from the pack, they have to possess the kind of magical voice that makes a listener stop in their tracks and pay attention. Denver’s Angie Stevens has that kind of voice, and it’s drenched in Americana akin to Patty Griffin or EmmyLou Harris. Stevens also has the songwriting chops to match, as Westword Magazine recently named her Denver’s Best Singer/Songwriter. Stevens is has just release her third and most powerful album to date, Queen of This Mess, released on Boss Koala Records and produced by Malcolm Burn.

Angie will be joining the House of Rock Rock Summer Camp for the 3rd summer as our vocal instructor.
